Solid wood storage bed – Making a storage bed can seem like a lot of work, given all the draws and handles and cabinets to think about. However, you can make your own storage bed with relative ease if you purposefully return storage cubicles to make the area of the frame with storage bed. No fancy joinery is required, no complex cuts, not much of everything that can cause even more novice carpenter any sweat.
Sand the wooden cubicles and then paint them on the desired color of the bed. If the cubicles are already painted in the color you want, then just sand and paint the three planks. The long use, even the movements of the brush and if the application of multiple layers, sand lightly in the middle. Place the two 80-inch cubicles on their sides, with the lockers facing outward. Place cube cubicles between the ends of the 80-inch cubicles, with their lockers facing out as well. This will create a rectangle, 60 inches by 80 for a double solid wood storage bed.
Drive four wood screws through the back of each end into the 80-inch cubbies on the sides of the cubicle cubes to secure the cubicles together for the frame of the storage bed. Lay the 90-inch planks lengthwise on top of the cubicle frame. The two final boards will have a 15-inch cantilever on the side of the cubicles 80 inches and the ends of the three planks will protrude 5 inches at the end. Pull wood screws through the top of the planks in the cubicles every 6 to 8 inches around the perimeter of the cubicle frame then place the double mattress centered on the top to finish the solid wood storage bed.
