Wood fencing panels can both add a barrier to your farm or property and improve its appearance. Many fences come in kits that contain posts, hardware and pre-assembled panels; If you are looking to save some money or want to add a personal touch, you can build the fence from scratch yourself. Build it yourself also gives you some leeway in where you place your posts, because you can construct wooden panels – the largest part of the fence, and the most visible part to determine exactly in the place where they are needed.
Cut two 1 by-4s equal to the length of your wood fencing panels posts, plus up to 4 inches, depending on how you want to secure the fence to the posts. If you use the attachments that you attach to the posts, do not add any extra length. If you put the fence rails to the posts, add a few inches to the length of these boards.
Add these two rails on the ground. These strips must be exactly the same distance apart as they will be when you install them on poles. Use your tape measure to ensure they are the correct distance from each other and put something heavy on one end of both rails so that they will not move. Cut a piece of 1-by-4 equal to the height you want the wood fencing panels be. If you want a certain shape on top of the board, as this will be top of the fence, cut shape now.
